F: Female from IIM Calcutta

M1: Male from IIT Kharagpur

M2: Male from ISI

F starts by politely welcoming me to the online interview and asks for the government ID proof. They asked a few questions and after they were satisfied with my answers, F ended the interview by politely asking if I had any questions and then asked to leave the meeting.

Overall, the panel was polite, but they didn’t look happy with my interview.

Ques. Please mention specific Statistics questions asked in the interview.

M2: Are you comfortable with statistics?

  • Yes, sir, definitely.

M2: How much comfortable? Easy or difficult level?

  • Sir, I believe at least fundamentals are clear.

M2: Can you tell the relationship between regression and covariance.

  • I answered that slope of regression eq. = Covariance (x,y)/var(x) .

M2: can you write down the equation what you are saying

  • Wrote a simple y=mx+c and then told m=cov(x,y)/var(x). It is derived through partial derivation.

M2: what if I add more independent variables?

  • Couldn’t answer. I told him that I had studied only linear regression with one variable as of now.

M2: what does c tell you in y=mx +c

  • Y-intercept, the value of the dependent variable when x=0.

M2: yes, but what is its physical significance?

  • I gave an example of a salesman whose salary is composed of fixed salary and variable salary(based on performance), c tells us the fixed salary he would get irrespective of his performance.

F enters again and gives some explanation of what c really tells about.

F: asks about hackathon wins I mentioned and whether they are co-curricular or extracurriculars?

  • Being an IT engineer, they are co-curricular to me. (What she pointed was that I had uploaded the certificate in the extracurriculars section)

No such questions

Ques. Please mention specific Mathematics questions asked in the interview.

M1: Asked questions on what are rational and irrational numbers, give examples.

  • I answered.

M1: Then he asked about recurring and non-recurring irrational numbers

  • I answered

M1: How can you measure root 7 without using a calculator. You can use the centimeters scale of natural numbers

  • Couldn’t know from where to start

M1: gave a hint- use geometry and insist again, you can use a scale. First, tell me how you will measure root2.

  • Took some time. Then I got the logic. Drew a unit square of 1 cm length, and then measure its diagonal.

M1: Now proceed similarly and measure root7

  • Didn’t strike my mind. After the interview, I realized it was too easy. Again, regret.

Ques. Please mention specific General Awareness questions asked in the interview.

F: Asked about the condition of Delhi during Jan-Feb 2020 (before Covid)
