Wondering how will your MBA (Analytics) by IIM Kashipur Interview Experience be like and stressing about it? We have got what you need.
Here’s Gaurav, who recently appeared for the MBA (Analytics) by IIM Kashipur Interview sharing his experience with AI Monks. Read on to have a better understanding of how things might go in there.
Name: Gaurav
Academic background: Engineering degree in Production Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. (Batch of 2016).
Professional background: Oracle Corp as a Database Administrator.
Name of the Course: MBA (Analytics) Program by IIM Kashipur.
Venue for interview: IIM Kashipur.
Ques. Why did you choose the MBA (Analytics) program offered by IIM Kashipur?
Nothing in particular. I appeared through CAT, and since I was already interested in Business Analytics, I also applied for this program and PGPBA program by IIM Bangalore. It’s just that my interests in analytics brought me here.
Ques. What instigated the transition from Engineering to Business Analytics?
In my engineering days, statistics and quantitative methods were already a part of our curriculum, and I always took an interest in them. I had also submitted a paper on quantitative methods.
Now, when I started working with the Oracle, I started exploring different basics of analytics. I learned Python and Trigon and a few other basic algorithms. So gradually, I started developing this deep interest in analytics.
Apart from that, if we look at the current situation, possessing business analytics skills can help you make a mark in the industry. Hence, I shifted to analytics.
Ques. How many applicants were there, according to you?
I registered for the program in the final few days. By guessing from my registration number, there were more than a thousand applicants for the interview.
Ques. How many of them appeared for the actual interview?
Around 60 to 70% of the total applicants came for the interview. I guess most of the applicants changed their minds and moved to some other course.
I am guessing this because, on the day of my interview, I got a call in the morning that it has been preponed to 3-4 hours. So some people might have backed out from the interview.
Ques. What kind of questions did the interviewers ask you during your interview?
I was mostly asked subject related questions. My profile mentioned that I had studied industrial statistics, so they asked questions on that. Other than that, the questions they asked were –
- Why would you choose Business Analytics?
- Explain with examples the difference between independent and exhaustive events.
- Do you have any experience in Business Analytics?
- Do you follow current affairs?
- What do you know about industrial statistics? Why is it called that?
- What is the probability of picking an ace of spades from a deck of 52 cards?
- How do you measure the accuracy of the model?
Ques. You mentioned appearing through CAT. What was the scope percentile through CAT? And, do you have any idea about the current cutoff?
The scope was 95%. The interviewing committee was calculating the composite score based on the entire profile. Also, the cutoff for that was 44 out of 80 marks.
Ques. How did you prepare for your interview? Any resources you used that you would like to suggest for the interview preparation?
I didn’t prepare anything separate for the interview. I had read a few books on Business Statistics.
Another thing that helped me was that my basics of analytics, statistics, probability, random variables, etc., were clear. For that, any good textbook on statistics will help.
Ques. Any advice or suggestions for future applicants for the program?
Based on my personal experience and some other interviews, the interviewing committee mostly asks subject related questions. Moreover, having command on the basics of analytics, probability, and statistics would really help the candidates prepare for their interviews.
So, we hope Gaurav’s MBA Analytics IIM Kashipur interview experience would help you prepare for your interview.
