Introduction to the Master of Management/ M Mgt by IISc
Master of Management (M Mgt by IISc) offered by the B-School ‘Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science,’ is a unique 24 months’ Post Graduate course in Management for engineering graduates.
The M Mgt course allows the students to specialize in Business Analytics after the first semester of the course, in the functional areas of management.
The increase in the entry of MNCs in the R & D and high-tech sectors and the increasing growth of domestic companies in recent times have led to India’s emergence as the global hub. Such R&D intensive and technology-based industries need executives with training and exposure in Management and Business Analytics. The Department of Mgt. Studies(DoMS) of the IISc focuses on catering to these sectors’ needs. The DoMS believe that imparting formal education in analytics will strengthen these executives’ capabilities to perform robust analyses to make decisions in data-driven organizations.

IISc and Master of Management Program
The DoMS of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is one of India’s oldest departments of management. IISc introduced the Master of Management Program in August 2011. The course allows only engineering graduates & mid-career engineers to enroll. Unlike other management institutes, the program emphasizes on quant-based research, technology management, and business analytics. The rigorous selection process involves shortlisting 300 students from over 3,000 applications to settle for only 19.

The M Mgt by IISc is a 2-year/ 24-month full-time regular classroom course.
Fee
The IISc discloses the fee structure only to the shortlisted candidates. But the fee charged for the year 2019 was INR 1,67,200 for the general category and INR 67,200 for SC\ST category. The tuition fee for the SC\ST category is fully waived.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate needs to satisfy either of the three following eligibility criteria:
- CAT 2019 qualified with Ist class in B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Sc(Engg.)/B.S (4 years technical field)/ equivalent.
- GATE 2018/ GATE 2019/ GATE 2020 qualified with Ist class in B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Sc (Engg.)/ B.S (4 years technical field)/equivalent.
- GMAT (valid at least till the end of the year 2020) qualified with Ist class in B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Sc (Engg.)/ B.S (4 years technical field)/equivalent.

The GD & PI will take place at the main campus at the Department of Management Studies, IISc, Bangalore, generally around 13-15 April 2020.

Summer Term Activities
The IISc encourages its students to do internships with Public & Private Sector, R & D organizations, and High-Tech Corporate Sector Industries.
Alternatively, the institute might ask its students to get exposure to Business Incubation, Venture Capital Funds, and Start-Ups.
The summer term aims at exposing the students to live problems and practical business challenges. This exposure will enable the students to understand the application aspects of management, which they can use in their project work.

The approved intake for the M Mgt program by IISc is 19. The institute has not fixed the upper limit to the number of offers extended each year, but usually, it makes an offer of 30. The batch strengths of 2018 & 2019 batches were 16and 15, respectively.
Research Facilities
The IISc being a fine research institute, offers its students a unique advantage. The institute will expose its students to scientific processes, new technologies & product development within the R & D environment of the various laboratories of the Institute. Further, the institute will create leadership in the area of Business Analytics through the faculty’s vast computational and analytical expertise in different departments of the Institute.

Admission Process
- Apply online. Candidates can start applying from 1st February.
- The IISc will call the selected candidates for GD & PI. (held towards the 3rd week of April.)
- Candidates called for the GD & PI should carry attested copies of their transcripts and produce them before the interview committee, failing to be interviewed by the panel.

Candidates admitted to the M Mgt program should report to the Institute for completing admission formalities on 21.07.2020.
