Low marks in Class 10/12/Undergraduate – Should I go for PGDBA?

pgdba preparation

Yes, you should definitely apply for PGDBA program jointly offered by IIM C, IITK and ISI. Though low percentage in Class 10, 12 or undergraduate is not desired, these are definitely not deal-breaker for you. Look at the points allocation criteria and their weights on ISI Kolkata’s website for admission to PGDBA 2020-2022 (Link) or IIT Kharagpur’s website (Link) for admission to PGDBA 2019-2021:

Criteria and weights for final selection to PGDBA

A candidate’s final score for selection is calculated on the basis of Table1, which indicates the criteria and their weights to be used for the final selection to PGDBA for the batch 2020-22.

While on the work experience side:

They have nowhere mentioned the qualifying marks for Class 10/12, even though there is a criterion on the qualifying marks for the graduate degree. Minimum qualifying marks during the graduate degree are either 60% or CGPA 6.5 on a scale of 10.

This answers the question from the qualification perspective.

Next part is compensating for the low points you will get due to low marks in Class 12. This is something which can’t be changed, so the best option is to work hard and improve on the areas that can be improved – written test and interview. You should in extra effort for the written exam and interview in order to compensate for it.

  1. I have less than 60% in 12th . Is it practical for me to pursue this course ? I have 3 years of work exp as Java developer.

  2. If you have less than 60% marks in class 12, it certainly becomes difficult to clear the cut-off. You are directly at a loss of 7 marks. If you can cover up that loss in your written exam and interview, I don’t think there will be any issue. Once you are in the program, your marks will not matter much.

  3. My CGPA is 6.2 and from my institute rule it’s equivalent to 62 percent marks.Am I eligible to pgdba.

The reason I am asking this is because I was confused with one of the terms i.e

The CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks, even if the degree awarding Institute provides marks in CGPA system. Their admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript. If the CGPA is on a different scale other than 10, the eligibility of a candidate will be based on the equivalence of the CGPA on a 10-point scale.

Is this means that I am not eligible to apply for pgdba?
