Ques. Your panel (number of interviewers/their background/other details):

Three interviewers, probably one each from ISI, IIM Calcutta, and IIT Kharagpur.

Ques. Please mention details of your PGDBA Interview. (Please elaborate as much as possible. This will help future aspirants in the same way past years’ interview experiences helped you this year.)

My interview lasted for about 35-40 minutes.

P1:
  • Introduce yourself
  • What are your hobbies?
  • What are eigenvalues and eigenvectors?
  • Asked me to solve a question in which I was given trace and determinant of a matrix and had to calculate the eigenvalues. I solved it using one approach, for which he asked why the sum of the eigenvalues equal to the trace of the matrix. He wanted me to solve by forming the characteristic equation, which I did when he provided a hint.
  • What is the trace of a matrix?
  • Is 1/log(mod(x)) continuous? What are the points of discontinuities?
  • You must have studied probability and statistics in your undergrad. What is a Poisson distribution?
  • If P(X=1) = P(X=2) in a Poisson distribution, what is the mean and expectation of the distribution?

He then asked P2 to continue with the interview.

P2-
  • Recently some public sector banks were merged by RBI, can you please tell me the reasons behind the same? I did not know about this and told him straight away; then, he asked me to make a logical guess based on why firms merge in the market.
  • You have mentioned geopolitics and International Relations as a hobby. Please tell me what geopolitics is?
  • Tell me about the Korean conflict. Also, tell me why the Korean war happened and why the US, Russia, and China were interested.
  • Tell me all about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He then asked P3 to continue with the interview

P3-
  • Tell me again which engineering stream you have graduated from?
  • Give me some examples where you think analytics can help in your work?
  • Give two examples of how analytics can help in manufacturing.

Meanwhile, P3 came to know that I know a bit about ML, and he was surprised.

  • Tell me how analytics with ML is different from analytics without ML?
  • Supervised vs. unsupervised ML.
  • When can we find the inverse of a matrix? What is the value of AA^-1?
  • Asked me to solve a probability question on paper and gave me one minute for it. If a dice was thrown six times, find the probability that all outcomes will be unique.

Then P1 asked me to confirm if the audio was clear enough, and the interview ended.

Ques. Please mention specific Statistics questions asked in the interview.

Ques. Please mention anything else that formed part of your interview but not covered above.

None.

Ques. Any suggestions for the next year batch?

My suggestion would be to cover the following properly:

  1. Read about your profile and work experience in detail and how analytics is applicable there.
  2. Read the following maths topics properly – Statistics and probability, Linear Algebra, Calculus. If possible, go through the basics of Operations Research, Fourier Transformation, Laplace Transformation, Mclaurin, and Taylor series.
  3. Read about some of the applications of Analytics in the industry and by the Indian government. Cover significant sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, policy-making, etc.
  4. Read the basics of your major undergrad subjects, especially if you have less work experience.
  5. Cover major recent general awareness topics.
  6. You can read about the theoretical basics of ML if you are not from an analytics background already. Most of these things are very easy to understand, like supervised vs. unsupervised, some basic ML algorithms like regression, decision trees, random forest, etc.

Also, make short notes if possible as you can forget content a few days after you cover it, and having quick notes will be a faster way to revise.

Ques. How did AI Monks help you in your overall preparation? Also, any suggestions/feedback for AI Monks.

I had taken the PGDBA Interview prep package of AI Monks, and it was beneficial. There were some direct questions from my last mock interview, and the valuable feedback provided helped me shape my preparation strategy. One free counseling session was also included, and the inputs received were valuable. I also purchased the mock test for the written exam, and I found it excellent. The interface and questions were good and truly up to the level.

If you need further guidance about the course and/or the admission procedure, etc., quickly write to us info@aimonks.com or visit AI Monks.
