AI can sure make functioning easier but how sure are we about our AI systems’ ethics?

Manufacturing businesses are using AI to filter out prospective candidates out of hundreds of CVs received. The company will surely get qualifications and desirable candidates in no time and without any human efforts. But AI is likely to respond to male applicants based on historical data that suggests majority of males at that post. Therefore female applicants have a higher chance of missing out on the position, hence creating gender bias.

Why ethical AI is important?
Automated decision-making processes where AI is used needs ethics. If AI’s decision-making process could cause bias or harm, data scientists have the obligation to own up to it. If AI systems are not trained properly, they have the potential to damage the reputation of a company.

Unintentional infusion of biased data due to lack of representation could be the root cause of problem in our AI systems.
To ensure fair and unbiased decision making, manufacturers need to make sure there’s no unintentional or unconscious bias on the part of the human.

Kiran Krishnamurthy, an AI domain specialist at CFMS suggests to design a set of questions to guarantee eradication of any bias on the part of the human to ensure fair and equal decision making.
Businesses could also ensure all data scientists take part in a course in ethics in AI.

Human biases can still creep in, but the business leaders need to stop overlooking potential biases in automated-decision-making process, and set up a benchmark to build fairer and more ethical AI systems.
