“Technology is evolving at such a fast pace that very soon artificial intelligence will dominate our way of life,” quotes Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
NASSCOM and the Ministry of Electronics and IT joined hands to develop India’s national Artificial Intelligence Portal, which is called www.ai.gov.in.
The portal will act as a one-stop digital platform for AI-related developments, investment funds, sharing resource details of startups, companies, and educational institutions in India.
The Union Minister of IT, electronics, communications, and law and justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad, launched the portal on May 30, 2020 (the first anniversary of the second tenure of the Central Government.) He mentioned during the launch that India’s AI approach should be of empowerment of human beings and inclusion by supplementing growth and development rather than making human beings less relevant.
The central Government also launched a national program named ‘Responsible AI for Youth.’ The program aims to empower the youth of the country with the AI-ready mindset, enable smooth access to relevant AI skillsets, and AI toolset required to make the youth digitally ready for the future.
The program aims to empower the youth to become AI-ready and help reduce the skill gap while enabling the youth to create meaningful social impact solutions.
The 10 teachers can nominate around 25 students of classes 8-12 each from central and state-run government schools. These students will get online AI training sessions and also understand the use of AI in identifying social impact ideas. They can submit AI solutions through a 60 seconds video. If shortlisted, they will get a chance to go through the AI journey, and submit a real-time project in video format. Top 20 innovative AI solutions will get an opportunity to present at a relevant platform.
Indian Government’s initiative to launch the National Artificial Intelligence Portal and a national program named ‘Responsible AI for Youth shows India’s acceptance of AI and its ambition to make the citizens AI-ready.
