EPFL’s new Center for Intelligence Systems<\/strong> (CIS) aims to bring together experts in ML, Data Science, computer vision, cyberphysical systems and robotics and act as a research platform for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jan Kerschgen, CIS Executive Director, says he wants to get researchers out of their comfort zones and pursue ambitious and collaborative projects<\/strong>.
CIS unites the schools of Engineering (STI), Computer and Communication Sciences (IC) and Basic Sciences (SB) to promote research and technology transfer under the umbrella of Intelligent systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ellis<\/strong>, a unit of EPFL included within CIS, is a European initiative to bring together experts in ML and Intelligent systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CIS launched its “Get to Know your Neighbour” seminar series<\/strong> in January under the directorship of Kerschgens. Next, he is planning a colloquium series that will invite intelligent systems’ distinguished speakers, a winter school and a joint lab funding for postdoctoral researchers.
CIS members are leveraging new resources to have an impact in the areas of health <\/strong>and medicine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Atienza, CIS steering member, announced the development of Coughvid App<\/strong>. The app will use AI to analyze sound wave to identify dry cough of a COVID-19 patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Researchers working together within the framework of CIS are well equipped to combat large-scale problems like COVID-19 pandemic. CIS is enabling Scientists and Engineers to explore<\/strong>, brainstorm <\/strong>and contribute <\/strong>to Science, education, industry, and the economy at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
